tools for true listeners

Ongoing research

A listening assistant

The Master’s Agent

It learns your words for sound. Every decision stays yours.

I am investigating whether an assistant can relate three things: the signal’s measured behaviour, one user’s verbal description of it, and the plug-in’s parameters. It analyses the audio, interprets the user’s descriptors, and learns from blind comparisons which parameter changes that user accepts or rejects.

The aim is an everyday extension for the plug-ins: you describe what you hear, it proposes a small change in your own terms, and you decide.

Open processing

The Master’s Bench

A plug-in opened up: to build with, and to learn from.

I am investigating whether a plug-in’s behaviour can be opened up into modules that can be heard on their own and shaped by ear, so that what makes a processor effective and musical can be learned, not only used.

The aim is to carry what holds up into everyday tools, and into a way of learning.

About the Bench

Audio professionals and artists, making the tools they need.

Creators, engineers and enthusiasts can now make their own tools, and learn from making them: each version teaches something about the craft, until the tool is useful in daily work and carries its maker’s own way of hearing.

AI coding agents take over the work that used to need a software team. I decide what each tool does and judge every version musically; the agents write the code.
